Call for Abstracts & Travel Grants

The Diabetes Canada and CSEM Scientific Program Committees invite abstract submissions for consideration. If your is accepted, you are expected to attend in-person and cover the expenses associated with presenting your abstract at the 2025 Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference, including registration, travel, and accommodation.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

Abstract Submission Deadlines:

  • Diabetes Canada/CSEM General Stream Abstract deadline: Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 11:59 PM EDT, with no exceptions.
  • CSEM Resident Stream Abstract deadline: Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM EDT, with no exceptions.

Abstract Submission Fees:

  • Diabetes Canada/CSEM General Stream Abstracts: Diabetes Canada/CSEM is offering an early-bird rate of $25 for each General Stream submission until May 21, 2025. After that date, a fee of $45 will apply for each General Stream submission.
  • CSEM Resident Stream Abstracts: CSEM Residents are offered the rate of $25 for each submission until the September 7, 2025 deadline.

You can submit any of the following:

  • a completed clinical research project for oral or poster presentation
  • a completed basic science/translational research project for oral or poster presentation
  • a completed quality improvement project for oral or poster presentation

CSEM Endocrine Resident Clinical Vignettes and Research Projects Abstracts

Before submitting your Diabetes Canada/CSEM General Stream Abstract, please take a moment to review the 2025 CSEM Abstract Submission Guidelines for Resident Clinical Vignettes and Research Projects.

You can submit either of the following:

  • a resident clinical vignette submission should be based on unique and interesting clinical endocrine cases for oral or poster presentation (for clinical trainees)
  • a research project submission is a basic-science or translational research project that is still in-progress for poster presentation (for research trainees, including PhD candidates). Interim results are acceptable.

Note: Completed resident research projects should preferably be submitted to the CSEM General Stream of the Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference for oral or poster presentation. Submissions are accepted from researchers, endocrinologists, and trainees. The Diabetes Canada/CSEM General Abstract Stream deadline is Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 11:59 PM EDT.

Trainee Awards

CSEM recognizes trainee members who have received the highest ranking oral or poster presentation, as decided by a judge at an assigned presentation time. For more information about CSEM Awards and Grants, see here.

The Awards:

Eligibility:

You are a CSEM trainee member:

  • PhD candidates (Student Member of CSEM), or an
  • Internal Medicine or Pediatric PGY 1–3 resident (Student Member of CSEM), or an
  • Endocrinology and Metabolism PGY 4–6 resident (Resident Member of CSEM)
  • Enrolled in an accredited Canadian training program

Conditions:

  • The presenting author is a PhD candidate, Internal Medicine/Pediatric Resident (PGY1–3) or an Endocrinology and Metabolism Resident (PGY4–6) CSEM member.
  • The award application task is completed when submitting an abstract.
  • The presenting author is registered and attends the 2025 Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference in-person.
  • By applying for award consideration, the presenting author thereby agrees to present in front of a judge to be considered for a CSEM trainee award.
  • The presenting author delivers their presentation before their assigned judge.
  • A presenting author who does not apply for award consideration during the abstract submission process will not be scheduled to present before a judge and will not be eligible for an award.

Remember: when submitting your abstract, don’t forget to apply for award consideration!


Resident Travel Grants

CSEM offers a modest stipend intended to help offset travel and accommodation expenses in support of PGY 4–5 Resident members presenting an abstract at the 2025 Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference and participating in the 19th Annual CSEM Residents’ Day Review Course.

Eligibility:

  • You are a CSEM PGY 4–5 Endocrinology and Metabolism Resident member

Note: If you receive a grant, you are required to submit all original travel receipts, boarding passes, and hotel bills to CSEM.
